IHRAM.CO.ID, ISTANBUL -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered tributes to an Indonesian who died during transit in Istanbul en route to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for umrah, or minor hajj.

Not all, including Turks, received last tributes from President Erdogan at the Edirne Kapi cemetery in Istanbul, Indonesian Consulate General in Istanbul Herry Sudradjat noted in a press statement made available to an Antara correspondent based in London on Saturday.

At the instruction of President Erdogan, a prayer was held for the Indonesian citizen identified as Naimah at the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in Istanbul, with Istanbul Governor Kadir Topbas, Fatih Governor Kadir Umit, and Eyup Governor Abdullah Dölek participating in it.

In fact, Dölek and Sudradjat had also attended the funeral at the Edirne Kapi cemetery in Istanbul on Friday (Nov 24).

Naimah, 53, from East Jakarta fell ill and died during transit at the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul en route to the Holy Land for umrah.

A doctor believed that Naimah died of a heart attack.

President Erdogan was reportedly concerned about the demise and offered his condolences to her family after learning about it in the local media.
